Woodland takes step into Chinese market

Indian brand Woodland has formed a partnership that will enable it to sell its footwear, apparel and accessories in about 5000 retail outlets in China.
As part of a move to globalise, Woodland has tied up with Aokang International to sell footwear made at its plants in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh at the Chinese company’s multi-brand shoe outlets.
In the first phase, starting in May, Aokang will stock Woodland shoes in 150 outlets (the Chinese company owns five footwear brands).
“After testing the market, we will scale up stocks by September and be available in Aokang stores across China,” says Woodland MD Harkirat Singh. It will step up production at all three manufacturing units and plans to invest 15 to 20 per cent of its annual revenue to producing footwear for the Aokang stores.
Woodland already sells its products in about 1000 stores globally, including Hong Kong. It will also offer Aokang footwear at its outlets in India and online.
