Alibaba has launched the Taobao Collection internet marketplace in Singapore.
Alibaba Group Holding and Lazada Group have teamed to sell select products direct to Singapore shoppers through a dedicated website, Taobao Collection.
Lazada Singapore CEO Alexis Lanternier says the site adds 400,000 Taobao items, from electronics to home products, to a lineup of about 5 million products.
The site is all in English and shoppers can track their orders. By doing away with external agents, Taobao Collection offers a flat delivery rate of S$2.99 (US$2.14) an order.
The move is aimed at deepening the reach of China’s Alibaba Group into Asia ahead of US rival Amazon.
