Dan Ryan’s Chicago Grill back in town

Hong Kong’s original modern-American casual restaurant Dan Ryan’s Chicago Grill has returned to the island with a new location in Cityplaza Mall.

As well as the same comfort food, there are new menu items and recipes.

Inspired by classic American dinner houses of the 1930s and ’40s, the new Dan Ryan’s offers such signature dishes as the Super Green Salad (baby spinach, quinoa and rocket leaves, avocado, broccoli, pears, blueberries and toasted pine nuts, with a wild blueberry dressing), the Deluxe Chili Burger with a brioche-style bun, the US Prime Tomahawk steak (grilled bone-in ribeye steak served with roast pumpkin, new potatoes and roasted garlic, and designed to be shared), and Seared Hokkaido Scallops dressed in a miso glaze and served with grilled asparagus spears, Maitake mushrooms and mashed potatoes.

Free soft-drink refills are standard, with portions generous enough to be shared.

While the Cityplaza diner has an upgraded look, it retains classic elements from the original design. The traditional Dan Ryan’s train has a longer track, and the space features artwork by American artists.

Open kitchen

New features include an open kitchen, an eight-seat Chef’s Table with a special window for direct communication with the chef, ideal for private events.

There is a 16-seater bar where customers can also grab a quick bite. The front of the restaurant has casual cafe seating, while the dining booth-style tables have lowered dividers to make the space feel more open.

Dan Ryan’s is owned by Windy City International and was acquired by Bayshore Pacific Hospitality last year.

Merritt Croker, a founding member of both companies and CEO of Windy City, says the company has plans to expand.

“Dan Ryan’s Cityplaza represents the next generation of the Dan Ryan’s brand strategy … the latest American dishes and ingredients, new art, smooth jazz music and a warm atmosphere are representative of what the modern American-style dinner house experience is all about.”

As well as Dan Ryan’s Chicago Grill there is a sister restaurant brand, Amaroni’s New York Italian Restaurant & Cafe.

Bayshore runs 13 TGI Friday and two Texas Roadhouse restaurants in Taiwan, with more on the way. The company was founded in 2013 with aim of growing full-service western casual-dining brands in Greater China. The acquisition of Windy City brings with it six locations in Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, totalling 24 Bayshore restaurants by year’s end.

The Dan Ryan’s and Amaroni’s brands will be grown through franchise in Asia.
