Retail element for Kajima Development, SPH project

A project involving housing and commerce as well as retail is being planned by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and Kajima Development.

Awarded a 99-year leasehold site in the new Bidadari Estate, the partners plan to develop more than 600 residential units and a retail/commercial component with a gross floor area of about 310,000 sqft (28,799.9 sqm).

The two companies teamed up to form an equal partnership that placed the top bid of S$1.132 billion (US$814.9 million) for the site, next to Woodleigh MRT Station. The consortium plans to bring in new ideas from Japan for the development.

As part of the tender conditions, the successful bidder also has to build a 6000 sqm community club, a 2190 sqm neighbourhood police centre, a commercial bridge toward Bidadari Park and an underpass to connect to the bus interchange.
