KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia plan store boost

KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia franchise holder QSR Brands is planning to open at least 67 new locations within three years.

The firm is also working on a collaboration with oil company Petronas to open 50 drive-thru KFCs at petrol stations throughout Malaysia. At the same time, QSR is partnering with Kepong Industrial Park (KIP) to upgrade around a fifth of its existing store network.

KIP’s CEO Valerie Ong said the group expects to boost future occupancy rates and earnings with KFC restaurants on site with a potential additional 1500 foot traffic daily.

Additionally, the company is building a new strategic partnership program for partners to identify suitable high-traffic locations for development. Four developers have signed on to the programme with several more to follow.

QSR’s MD Datuk Seri Mohamed Azahari Kamil said that with the number of integrated property developments mushrooming, “we see a lot of potential to collaborate with developers to jointly build infrastructure”.

QSR has 810 KFC locations in its territory of Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia, drawing 25 million customers per month. It operates 380 Pizza Hut restaurants in Malaysia and 80 in Singapore, attracting 6 million diners per month.
