Singaporean breakfast chain Ya Kun Kaya Toast is attempting to crack the Japanese market, opening a store in Tokyo.
The chain, which specialises in Singapore comfort food items such as kaya toast, mee noodles and local-style coffee & tea, is aiming to offer its home menu abroad at higher prices to fit the foreign market.
The store is already operating under a pre-opening phase, during which only drinks are being served – with the full menu set to become available next month following a grand opening.
Ya Kun Kaya Toast has made one previous attempt to launch in Tokyo, although the brand was phased out some years ago. The new opening potentially reflects a renewed confidence in the potential of the Japanese market, with further outlets likely to follow.
