Indian cloud kitchen restaurant operator, Rebel Foods, has secured exclusive master franchise rights to operate Wendy’s restaurants in India.
The company acquired the rights to run cloud kitchens for Wendy’s there in 2020 with a commitment to open about 250 delivery-only locations by 2030. The expanded partnership will allow Rebel Foods to completely manage and operate the US fast food chain in India.
“This one of its kind partnership will enable Rebel Foods to be the first Indian foodtech company to expand a major global QSR through both cloud kitchens and traditional restaurants,” the company said in an announcement.
The deal also marks the end of Wendy’s franchise partnership with Sierra Nevada Restaurants, which held the rights to expand the chain’s physical presence in the country. The US chain has about 90 locations in India.
“Through this groundbreaking partnership, we will continue to leverage our expertise in delivery, automation, and innovation to hyper-scale the brand’s reach and extend Wendy’s experience to Indian customers.”
Meanwhile, Indian multi-brand footwear company Metro Brands is in talks with Foot Locker to launch the US brand into India. Foot Locker was reported to be in discussions with four potential Indian franchisees.
