South Korean fashion chain GoPizza has launched its first physical location in Indonesia, as part of a broader Asian expansion plan.

This brand’s first direct-to-consumer store in Indonesia is located in Jakarta and follows the opening of a small store inside CGV Grand Indonesia in October of last year in collaboration with Korean multiplex operator CGV.

The brand reportedly will open its second branch at Mall of Indonesia this month, and the KM 6B Toll Rest Area the following month.

Beyond Indonesia, the company aims to increase its footprint in India from 25 to 100 locations this year and is preparing to expand into other markets including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and the US.

The K-wave in Indonesia, a country with a population of more than 270 million, is cited by the brand as the reason for its strategic decision to launch in Indonesia. The brand offers its standard cheese pizza, as well as tteokbokki, a spicy rice cake delicacy, and Korean fusion pizzas.

Beginning with a small food truck in Seoul in August 2016, the single-serving pizza company, noticed for its tech-enabled process, opened its first brick-and-mortar location in 2018. In May 2019, the business opened its first branch abroad in Bangalore, India. It was followed by branches in Singapore and Hong Kong in April 2020 and March 2021, respectively.

Last year, the South Korean fast-food company raised US$25 million in a Series C fundraising round, with the goal of expanding its presence in India.
