Watsons plans to add 300 stores to its portfolio in China, as part of its ambition to expand its O+O platform strategy.

The business says it has been innovating with its store designs during the past three years, revamping some 440 locations in more than 300 cities across Mainland China.

Watsons China recently launched a new, improved store format at Shanghai Qingpu Wuyue Plaza, and a Colorlab 2.0 makeup concept store at Jiangsu Changzhou Wuyue Plaza, to improve the O+O consumer shopping experience.

Watsons’ new O+O store designs include a skincare zone where clients can test the most advanced and professional skin analysis equipment in-store, and receive personal guidance from in-store beauty advisers.

“Looking ahead, the O+O platform strategy will still be our core growth engine, and physical stores will continue to play a significant role in creating irreplaceable O+O customer experience,” said Malina Ngai, CEO of AS Watson (Asia & Europe).

“Therefore, Watsons plans to open over 300 new stores in Mainland China this year with an innovative store design enriching product assortment and providing an advanced customer experience to better suit the needs of customers. Retail is not dead; it just needs to be better for our customers.”

Following the success of the Colorlab beauty concept store, which opened in Shenzhen in January 2018, Watsons China has opened a new Colorlab 2.0 makeup concept store, which is decorated in traditional black, white and grey with a refreshing ‘Watsons green’ transparent colour tone.
