JD has launched phase two of its Kunshan Asia No.1 Intelligent Logistics Park in Jiangsu province, China.

The Chinese-headquartered internet giant says its Kunshan Asia No.1 Intelligent Logistics Park is the world’s largest of its kind, with a floor space of approximately 500,000sqm when merged with the existing phase 1. The factory has a capacity of 4.5 million parcels per day.

The automatic sorting centre, which has more than 80 sorting lines and a fleet of 10,000 intelligent sorting robots, is in the centre of the Kunshan Asia No. 1 Intelligent Logistics Park. It boasts a sorting accuracy rate of 99.99 per cent.

JD said that during busy times – including its 618 Grand Promotion, China’s biggest mid-year shopping festival – the sorting centre works nonstop, handling more than 4.5 million packages daily.

JD’s logistics network guarantees that more than 93 per cent of its retail orders from the East China region – which includes Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Anhui – can be delivered the same day or the following day, serving a population of 200 million people.

JD opened its first Asia No. 1 Intelligent Logistics Park in Shanghai in October 2014.

In March, the company announced plans to spin off its property and industrial companies and float them on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
