UK fashion brand Studio Nicholson is further expanding in Asia with its first brick-and-mortar store in Japan in Tokyo’s Aoyama district.

The launch comes less than a year after the brand introduced its first standalone store in South Korea in partnership with Samsung C&T Fashion Division’s Beaker.

According to WWD, the new Japan flagship store has been opened in collaboration with trading partner Kowa.

The brand said Studio Nicholson Japan’s flagship will embody the ‘Modular Wardrobe’ concept.

“For me, coming from London, I remember Tokyo, which I visited for the first time in 1999, was a perfect place, with an impressive colour palette of beige, brown, and cream, and an orderly and beautiful light,” said Nick Wakeman, founder and creative director of Studio Nicholson.

“It has influenced my designs for the past 20 years and I am deeply moved by the fact that I was able to open a Studio Nicholson store in Japan, which I love like a second home.”

Wakeman launched Studio Nicholson in 2010 which focuses on functional pieces inspired by Japanese architecture, interiors, grunge music, 1990s sub-culture, and geological landscapes.

The label has one store in London and three stores in South Korea. Its products are retailed across 250 stores worldwide.
