Indian food-delivery service company Swiggy has acquired retail distribution company Lynk, marking Swiggy’s foray into India’s food and grocery retail market.

The value of the deal has not yet been disclosed. Founded in 2015 by Abinav Raja and Shekhar Bhende, Lynk helps FMCG brands to expand their retail presence through the network of more than 100,000 retail stores across eight cities in India.

“Our experience in supply chain and logistics gives Swiggy the unique opportunity to help Lynk scale up their offerings and empower retailers to serve their customers better,” said Sriharsha Majety, CEO at Swiggy.

The company said Lynk would leverage Swiggy’s strength in technology and logistics to further scale their existing platform.

“With Swiggy, we now hope to further accelerate our growth and double down on the tremendous opportunity before us,” said Shekhar Bhende, co-founder at Lynk.

India’s food and grocery retail market is estimated to value at more than US$570 billion and grow at 8 per cent year on year, according to Swiggy.
