Japanese activewear company Asics has reported a 28.9 per cent year-on-year growth for the first half year to June 30, reaching 290 billion yen (US$2 billion).

The company said the sales represented the highest ever for the six months ended June 30 and increased year on year in all regions and categories. Profit attributable to shareholders was up by 82.8 per cent to 24.8 billion yen (US$173 million).

In its home market, sales grew 22.3 per cent to 69.1 billion yen.

Net sales in the Southeast and South Asia accounted for the highest growth rate – 66.9 per cent increase – underpinned by performances in India and Malaysia. Meanwhile, sales in Greater China jumped 39.6 per cent to 40.4 billion yen.

“The normalisation of social and economic activities has continued to progress with in-person sporting events having truly reopened since the beginning of the year and people were able to move freely for the first time in several years,” the company said.

The company expects net sales for the full-year period ended December 31 will reach 550 billion yen, up 13.5 per cent.
