Chinese coffee chain Cotti Coffee has expanded its presence into Southeast Asia, opening its first Indonesian store in Jakarta’s Kuningan City Mall.

The launch came a week after the brand made its international debut in Seoul.

Besides Indonesia, the brand is also planning to expand into other Asian markets, including Japan, Thailand and Singapore. Cotti Coffee’s first Japan location is reported to be under development in Tokyo.

Cottie Coffee, founded by former executives of Luckin Coffee – Jenny Qian and Charles Lu – last October, has opened approximately 5000 locations in its home market, a majority of which are 50sqm mini stores for takeaway.

In Indonesia, the Chinese coffee chain will compete directly with several other brands, including Kopi Kenangan, which has more than 850 stores across more than 60 cities in the country, and Janji Jiwa.
