British lifestyle brand Barbour is set to open its first flagship store in Daikanyama, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo on September 29.

The company says the wooden interiors of the Tokyo store offer a “calm atmosphere” inspired by the brand’s British origin.

Customers can buy the brand’s 40th-anniversary limited edition model of its long-selling jacket model, Beaufort. Designed as a hunting jacket, the Beaufort features a game pocket on the back for storing captured prey in a length that hides a suit jacket.

The limited model has stud buttons with the word “40” engraved on them, tartan lining, a pin badge and an inner patch designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary.

Meanwhile, customers can also restore Barbour’s signature waxed jackets in-store at a permanent ‘Rewax Station’. The jackets are made from high-density cotton and impregnated with wax to make them water-repellent and windproof.

Additionally, jackets bought in-store can be customised to have the customer’s initials or name combined with an exclusive embroidery service.

The store also offers an expanded range of women’s offerings which were previously limited with plans underway to develop an outerwear collection in a range of different sizes and colourways.

Similar to the UK, the Japanese store will also promote the ‘Re-Loved’ project – a unique initiative where jackets that can no longer be worn are collected and displayed. The Daikanyama store will display five of the 40 world-limited jackets revived through the initiative.
