US burger restaurant chain Shake Shack has made its debut in Malaysia at the new lifestyle hub in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).

The burger chain was launched in the country in collaboration with Korean-based restaurant group SPC and other local partners. SPC Group is also behind the launch of Eggslut and Shake Shack in Singapore. 

The opening of Shake Shack’s first store is part of the chain’s larger expansion plan in the country where it aims to open 10 stores by 2031. Michael Kark, chief global licensing officer at Shake Shack, said last year the company expected to have more than 45 Shake Shacks across South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia by 2031. 

Marking its launch, the chain has rolled out a series of promotions and pre-opening prizes, including a year’s supply of Shack Burgers. Shake Shack Malaysia’s menu will include the brand’s signature items, such as ShackBurger and Chicken Shack, in addition to exclusive items to the market. 

Opening its first store in NYC’s Madison Square Park in 2004, Shake Shack has a network of more than 470 stores, including 165 international locations namely Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo and London.
