Singapore-based recommerce platform Carousell has suspended the sale of Taylor Swift concert tickets in all of its six markets to prevent scams, just a few days before the highly-anticipated event takes place in the city-state.

The company said it has removed existing listings from the marketplace across in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan.

The firm cited the rise in ticket scams in the lead up to many of Taylor Swift’s shows across her global tour, as well as Singapore being the only stop in Southeast Asia.

“Selling concert tickets is not prohibited in our community guidelines as we are an open and inclusive marketplace,” said Su Lin Tan, chief of staff at Carousell.

“However this concert is unique in that we expect many overseas concertgoers who may not know how to adequately protect themselves from local scam tactics.”

The two weeks prior to the shows are prime for scammers as they take advantage of last-minute panic buyers, Tan added.

Since October, Carousell has required all Singapore sellers in the Tickets & Vouchers category to verify their identities via Singpass.

The platform also advises buyers to do their background checks on any deal and to arrange for physical meet-ups when it comes to buying concert tickets.

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour will include six shows at Singapore’s National Stadium from March 2 to 9. More than 300,000 tickets had been sold for the concerts as of February 24, according to The Straits Times.
