Levi Strauss & Co has reopened its Levi’s store in Japan’s Kyoto, which features the brand’s NextGen format designed to elevate the shopping experience.

The 570sqm store in the Teramachi Kyogoku shopping district has four levels and is more than twice as large as the original one, which spanned only two floors. It stocks a large assortment of products including men’s and women’s clothing as well as the brand’s most well-known collections.

The venue aims to meet shoppers’ demand for self-expression by offering the Tailor Shop on the ground floor, where customers can customise, change, and repair their Levi’s clothing with the help of tailoring professionals. The space offers exclusive materials and customisation options including rare fabric from Chingireya antique textile store and patches designed by local illustrator Hideto Honda.

“With the Kyoto store, we’ve built a unique experience representative of the culture and history of the city,” said David Hamaty, GM for North Asia at Levi Strauss & Co. “We’re also bringing to life exclusive, hyperlocal customisation options that will allow shoppers to tailor their Levi’s apparel to their specific taste and expression.”

The limited-edition items exclusive to Kyoto are offered during the reopening. Inspired by the history and culture of the region, the decorations and designs feature lanterns with a Kyoto theme and kara-kami paper.

“As we strive to cultivate lifelong denim fans around the world, we remain committed to bringing the best and fullest expression of the Levi’s brand to their doorstep while delivering impactful and elevated shopping experiences that resonate with them,” added Hamaty.
