South Korean convenience store chain Emart24 has shut down all of its three stores in Singapore, less than two years after entering the market.

The closure was shared by customers on social media earlier this week, according to The Straits Times. The news came as quite a shock as some of them believed that the business had been doing well.

Emart24 opened its first two outlets in Singapore – at Jurong Point mall and Nex shopping centre – in December 2022. The third store, located at Margaret Market, opened its doors in July last year.

Owned by South Korea’s retail giant Shinsegae, the chain has more than 6500 stores in its home country.

Aside from Singapore, Emart24 also operates overseas in Malaysia with more than 50 locations opened since 2020. The company also announced its plans to launch in Cambodia this year.
