Starbucks has named Molly Liu the sole head of its China business following a leadership reshuffle by CEO Brian Niccol.

The coffee giant said the move is part of its plan to transition to a “new generation of leaders”. It’s also the second major leadership change since Niccol became CEO three weeks ago.

Liu has worked with the company for more than 12 years and held several leadership positions, including COO and VP of digital ventures.

Last year, she was named co-CEO with Belinda Wong, who will now serve as market chairwoman focusing on innovation and strategy in China.

“Over the past year, we have significantly up-leveled our innovation engine,” said Liu. “Our operational muscle has never been stronger, our brand power remains second to none, and partner retention is at an all-time high.”

Starbucks directly manages its stores in China, unlike in other international markets, where it often relies on third-party operators. The company said it is currently exploring strategic partnerships in the country.
