French luxury house Hermes has reopened its expanded store in Macau, unveiling a refreshed retail space that blends natural materials, symmetry and subtle nods to traditional games in a tribute to the city’s playful character.
Initially opened in 2008, the store now features all 16 of the brand’s métiers within a redesigned interior by Parisian architecture firm RDAI.
The renovation introduces a green-toned palette that transitions from cool to warm hues, with jade-coloured ceramic bricks arranged like mahjong tiles, complemented by large windows framed with sliding triangular panels.
Inside, earthy tones and rich materials set a welcoming tone. The signature Faubourg mosaic anchors the women’s silk and home collections, while terrazzo flooring embedded with green, amber and ochre fragments connects the men’s silk, fashion jewellery, and beauty and fragrance departments.
The watches and jewellery salon is finished in lacquered green wood, offering a contrast to the darker cherrywood used for equestrian and leather goods. These are framed by diamond-patterned panels that reference the board game backgammon.
Towards the rear, women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and footwear collections are presented in zones defined by shaded carpets and timber detailing. A private salon and fitting rooms complete the layout.
Artworks from the Émile Hermes collection and the Hermes Collection of Contemporary Photographs add visual depth with botanical prints, equestrian imagery and Douglas Lance Gibson’s Esi Ni Daimani, inspired by playing cards.
Finally, design elements including the ex-libris motif, Grecque lighting and game-inspired aesthetics, tie the space together.
