Japanese retailer Muji is expanding its global footprint with major flagship store openings in Southeast Asia and Europe as part of a broader international growth strategy.

The company, operated by Ryohin Keikaku Co, will open its largest Southeast Asian store at Central World in Bangkok on November 28. The 3270sqm location will offer Muji’s full product lineup, including apparel, furniture, household goods and food. It will also feature locally developed products designed to reflect Thai lifestyles.

Muji currently operates 39 stores in Thailand.

In Vietnam, Muji is renovating and expanding its original Ho Chi Minh City store to 2990sqm, making it the company’s largest location in the country. The reopening is set for later this year to coincide with Muji’s fifth anniversary in Vietnam. The upgraded store will also feature more locally sourced and developed products.

The Southeast Asia expansion is part of Muji’s plan to strengthen its overseas presence. As of August, the company operated 1474 stores globally, including 717 in Japan and 757 overseas.

Beyond Asia, Muji is reviving its European expansion with a flagship store scheduled to open on Rue de Rivoli in Paris in late next year.

Earlier this year, the retailer also opened its largest domestic location in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, a store roughly 10 times larger than its previous site.
