Rapha has opened its first Clubhouse in Mainland China, bringing its retail-and-community model to Shanghai in partnership with creative design agency Seen Studios.
First launched in London in 2012, the concept blends retail, cafe culture and live events, serving as a hub for cyclists. Rapha now operates clubhouses across Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific.
Alex Edwards, design director at Seen Studios, said the goal was to create a space that reflects cycling heritage while supporting a modern rider community.
“Together, we have created a space that is more than a store but a cultural beacon for cyclists,” he said.
“It embodies the inviting nature of Italian cafe culture, the refined functionalism of 1950s design, and Rapha’s dedication to connection and craftsmanship.”
Located inside a restored 1925 mansion, Rapha is the site’s first retail tenant.
The Shanghai Clubhouse draws on Italian cafe influences and mid-century design, featuring walnut, stainless steel, white oak and ceramic tiling, with subtle pink accents.
Functional touches include helmet hooks and cafe tiles inspired by patterns associated with the Roubaix race.
Fran Millar, CEO of Rapha, said the space reflects the brand’s growing community in the country.
“Cycling has the power to change lives – and nowhere is that more visible right now than in China,” she said.
“The Rapha Shanghai Clubhouse will become home to a thriving cycling community and a launchpad for a bold new chapter in our mission to build the greatest club in the world.”
