South Korea fashion platform Musinsa has expanded its China strategy with the launch on Tmall Global, Alibaba Group’s cross-border e-commerce platform.

The move builds on Musinsa’s earlier entry into China last year via the domestic Tmall marketplace, giving it a dual presence across both China’s local e-commerce ecosystem and its cross-border shopping channel.

According to local sources, Musinsa is using Tmall Global to target Korean small and mid-sized fashion brands. These brands have traditionally faced high barriers to entry in China, including regulatory complexity, logistics challenges, and the cost of setting up local operations.

Through the platform model, brands can sell directly to Chinese consumers without establishing local entities. Musinsa is also expected to support participating labels with end-to-end services, including platform integration, logistics coordination, marketing, and customer service.

The company is further leaning on a content-led curation strategy to promote Korean fashion trends to Chinese shoppers. It is also planning marketing initiatives, including co-branded campaigns with Tmall Global, promotional events, and livestream shopping activations.

Musinsa previously entered the Chinese market through a partnership with Anta Sports, establishing a joint venture, Musinsa China, to expand across both online and offline channels.

Last year, Musinsa opened a flagship store on Tmall, launching modern basic casual wear brand Musinsa Standard and Musinsa Store.

“The opening of this online flagship store marks the first step for Musinsa to introduce competitive emerging Korean brands to the young generation in China as a trusted fashion curator,” a Musinsa China official said in a statement.

“Based on Musinsa’s extensive experience in the fashion industry and localisation strategies, we will accelerate the global expansion of K-fashion.”
