Mega Bangna is set to expand its retail offering to more than 1200 brands under a THB6 billion (US$179 million) investment, as owners Central Pattana and Ikano Centres push ahead with plans to transform the shopping centre into eastern Bangkok’s largest mixed-use destination.
Scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2028, the expansion will add approximately 170,000sqm of gross building area, including new retail space and 1750 additional parking spaces.
The project will bring Mega Bangna’s developed area to nearly 800,000sqm, marking the halfway point of a long-term masterplan valued at THB70 billion (approximately US$2 billion).
The development forms part of the long-term masterplan, a mixed-use precinct spanning more than 325 rai with a planned development area exceeding 1.3 million sqm. Future phases may include office, residential and hospitality components alongside retail.
The expanded centre will increase its brand portfolio from around 900 to more than 1200 brands, including more than 250 retailers making their eastern Bangkok debut. The new tenant mix will feature more than 20 accessible luxury brands, alongside new retail and dining concepts designed to meet evolving consumer preferences.
Mega Bangna managing director Maris Aboltins said the expansion reflects growing demand for experience-led retail destinations that support wellbeing, community engagement and family-oriented lifestyles.
“As customers increasingly seek experiences that enhance wellbeing, foster meaningful connections, and enrich everyday life, we are evolving Mega Bangna into a destination designed for people of all generations,” Aboltins said.
“This expansion goes beyond adding retail space to create more opportunities for people to spend quality time together, embrace healthier lifestyles, and enjoy richer everyday experiences, while further strengthening Megabangna’s position as ‘Your Everyday Meeting Place’ and contributing to the future of East Bangkok.”
Among the new attractions planned are Mega Skyline, a community-focused outdoor destination spanning more than seven rai, and Mega Loft, a 2000sqm dining precinct that the company describes as eastern Bangkok’s largest social dining destination.
According to the company, Mega Bangna has been recording strong performance, welcoming more than 670 million visits since opening and recorded a record 60 million visitors last year while maintaining full occupancy. It currently attracts around 165,000 visitors daily and is home to major anchors including Ikea, Central Department Store, HomePro, Big C and Mega Cineplex.
