Costco has launched a flagship store on JD, marking a new phase in its China expansion as it looks to grow its online presence beyond its network of physical warehouses.

The partnership gives consumers nationwide access to around 700 products spanning grocery, household essentials, health supplements, beauty, and Costco’s Kirkland Signature private-label range, including in cities where the retailer has no physical presence.

“Partnering with JD marks a pivotal step in scaling Costco’s business in China by transcending the physical footprint of our membership warehouses,” said Costco China.

“Leveraging JD’s established online platform and extensive logistics network enables us to break regional limitations, extend our reach into broader markets, and efficiently deliver Costco’s signature merchandise and service value to consumers nationwide.”

The flagship store entered a trial phase in late May. Costco said it attracted more than 30 million visits and nearly 200,000 followers in its first month, underscoring strong consumer interest ahead of the official launch.

The move comes as Costco continues to expand cautiously in Mainland China. Since opening its first warehouse in Shanghai in 2019, the retailer has added a handful of stores in major cities while increasingly using digital channels to expand its market reach.
