McDonald’s is accelerating its expansion across Asia, with its restaurant network reaching 4000 outlets after adding 735 over three years.
The milestone restaurant opened in Ahmedabad, India, also marking the 500th outlet operated by McDonald’s developmental licensee in the country’s South and West markets.
The company aims to grow its network to 5000 restaurants across the region by 2030, targeting around 300 new openings annually. Its Asia Business Unit covers 12 markets, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and India.
Asia is also becoming an increasingly important hub for McDonald’s menu innovation and cultural partnerships. Following the success of hand-breaded chicken in Malaysia, the concept is expected to inform trials in other markets, including the US and Ireland in 2027. Meanwhile, a collaboration between McDonald’s South Korea and K-pop star G-Dragon has expanded across the region.
“Our success in Asia has always been built on combining the scale of McDonald’s with a deep understanding of local customers, communities and cultures,” said Patrick Walsh, Asia business unit lead.
“That approach continues to help us grow the brand while creating jobs, supporting suppliers and contributing to the communities we serve across the region.”
The development is part of its ‘Next strategy’, which focuses on menu innovation and enhancing the restaurant experience to attract more customers across the region.
