American Eagle Outfitters launches in Japan

Pennsylvania-based American Eagle Outfitters will make its first foray in Japan with store openings slated for later this year.

AEO will be distributed and managed by Japanese company Aoyama Trading. The first store, with a floor space of 12,450sqft, will be located in Omotesando in Tokyo and is scheduled to open in April.

It will be followed by an 8540sqft store opening in a shopping centre in Tokyo Bay. The third store will open in December in northwest Tokyo.

American Eagle Outfitters aims to operate 10 stores by 2014, most of which will be located in Tokyo, to achieve the target sales of US$128.65 million in five years.

American Eagle Outfitters’ nitty-gritty is casual wear which targets consumers in their teens and 20s. Its popular products include low-rise jeans, graphic T-shirts, swimwear, polo shirts, henley shirts, boxers and outerwear. A pair of AEO jeans can be bought at estimated $39 to $49.
