Starbucks to expand in Indonesia

Seattle-based coffee chain Starbucks plans to open 25 new outlets in Indonesia this year.

“We currently have 125 outlets in Indonesia. We are aiming to have 150 outlets in the country this year,” said Farah Milda, GM of Sari Coffee Indonesia, the holder of the Starbucks master franchise in Indonesia.

Milda said target locations of expansion include Surabaya, Bandung, Jakarta and Surakarta. The coffee chain will also introduce two products in June – the Green Tea Red Bean and Hojicha which is a mix of green tea, cappuccino and jelly.

Starbucks, which entered Indonesia in May 2002, ended 2011 with more than 17,000 stores in 55 countries. China remains on track to become Starbucks’ second largest market; it already operates more than 500 stores across 44 Chinese cities and plans to open approximately 150 new stores in 2012.

Globally, Starbucks plans to open 800 new stores this year, including first Starbucks store in India. Last year’s revenue stood at US$11.7 billion.
