Uniqlo to sell online in the US

US customers of Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo can soon buy online when the company launches an e-commerce site later this year.

“Starting this fall, customers and fans anywhere in the US can experience the ultimate in quality and customer service while purchasing affordably priced products all from the comfort of their own homes,” said the company in a statement.

Uniqlo is said to be recruiting an agency to create and maintain its e-commerce site in the US with a proposed budget of US$800,000 to US$1.8 million.

Uniqlo entered the US market in 2006 with first store in Soho, Manhattan. It was followed by stores in New York’s 34th Street and Fifth Avenue. Uniqlo stores in San Francisco and New Jersey are also planned this fall.

Uniqlo plans to raise US$10 billion sales in the US by 2020, with e-commerce accounting 20 per cent.
