Alexander McQueen opens in Shanghai

British fashion designer Alexander McQueen has opened the doors of its second China store in Shanghai.

The store occupies 1600 sqft of space inside Reel Mall in Nanjing Rd. Fitted with moulded plaster panels and velvet furnishings, the store was designed by architecture and interior design agency David Collins Studio.

The store is said to have taken its inspiration from Francis Bacon’s Popes paintings, Antoni Gaudi architecture, the 18th century salon, HR Giger’s surrealism and Rorschach ink blots, “exhibiting savage beauty”.

“It’s very McQueen to see something from a distance and think it’s one thing and then to look up close and discover something else. It’s important to us that everything in the stores feels very precious,” said chief designer Sarah Burton of the store.

The shop offers ready-to-wear, runway pieces, and a collection of signature McQueen scarves and accessories such as bags and footwear.

Alexander McQueen opened its first store in China in October 2011 in Beijing’s Sanlitun.
