Balenciaga debuts flagship store in Japan

Luxury retailer Balenciaga has launched a flagship store in Tokyo, accelerating its regional expansion.

The store – located in the newly rebuilt Toraya Ginza Building – spans three floors and features the latest Balenciaga men’s and women’s collections, as well as Balenciaga Ginza exclusives.

According to the brand, the space adheres to the brand’s Raw Architecture philosophy with a deconstructed glass-panelled exterior that depicts all three stories as integrated, reminiscent of the stacked nature of a parking structure.

There are also two white-lit Balenciaga signs, one of which hangs from the store’s centre level. Chipped stone and mortar floors are either coated in interlocking metal plates or poured with resin in slick spills that appear to be unintentional.

“The store’s construction respects existing elements, exposing accumulated histories, and inherently resulting in the use of fewer virgin materials, in keeping with Balenciaga’s commitment to sustainable methods,” Balenciaga wrote in a statement.

The store features an exclusive Balenciaga Ginza Series, containing ready-to-wear with Ginza Tokyo graphics, a Triple S Sneaker with a Ginza Tokyo tag, and exclusive hues of Balenciaga’s signature handbags.
