AS Watson will expand from its health and beauty retailing core into grocery, with plans to open its first premium supermarket in mainland China.
To be located in Chengdu, the supermarket called “Great” will target high income earners. It will offer cooked food, fine wines and beverages, imported ingredients and other high-end grocery products.
AS Watson already operates one “Great” store in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile, with a goal to be a dominant player in personal care sector, AS Watson said it will increase its “Watsons”China store network to 3000 by 2016.
