US burger chain enters India

US burger chain The Counter is entering India with plans to open in Delhi and Mumbai.

The burger chain is partnering with Franchise India which also helped quick service chains such as Gelato, Chicago Pizza, Fruitilicious and San Churro Amore Gourmet to expand in the country.

The Counter offers more than 3000 burger combinations with each burger priced at a minimum of Rs 400 (about US$7).

“In India, we either have lower-priced burgers or the ones available at the coffee shops of five star hotels. There is a huge gap and potential between these segments, which we hope to fill through The Counter with a fine-dining positioning,” said Franchise India chairman Gaurav Marya.

The Counter will be competing with McDonald’s which currently operates in 13 Indian cities and soon with another US burger chain Fatburger which is also planning to enter the country.

The burger chain is present globally through 33 stores in the US and four in Kuwait, Dublin and Jeddah.
