Beijing’s second Ikea store opens

Fourteen years after it first opened in Beijing, Swedish home furnishing chain Ikea is adding a second store in the city.

“Local citizens’ enthusiasm for our products made Ikea realise the importance of having one more store in the big city,” said Fredrik Johansson, manager of Ikea’s new Beijing store.

“After providing furnishing solutions for people living in the north part of the city, now we open a store in the south part of the city to further fulfill our vision of ‘creating a better everyday life for people’,” added Zhu Changlai, Ikea China retail manager.

The store features 60 different display rooms designed according to the residential layout and habits of people living in the southern part of the city.

With the new Beijing store, Ikea now has 14 stores across China having ventured into the market in 1998.

Ikea’s ongoing expansion plans for China include store openings in Chongqing and Wuhan in 2014.
