Dell grows Indian footprint

Computer technology company Dell is to open 50 exclusive stores across India over the next two months.

Dell eyes to expand into India’s lower tier cities to tap opportunities there.

“This year, the PC market is seeing flat-to-five per cent growth. That is where we are working on increasing our presence through brand stores and educating more people to (use computers). About 50 per cent of the population is aged less than 25, and we see a potential in this group,” said P Krishnakumar, executive director and GM (consumer and small business), Dell India.

The company, which has just opened its 150th store, has a 3.5 per cent share of India’s computer market.

Apart from exclusive stores, Dell also sells products through about 5000 multi-brand outlets.
