Burberry Asia sales soar

British luxury brand Burberry has again delivered double-digit percentage comparable sales growth in Asia Pacific.

Burberry said retail revenue grew 14 per cent to 528 million pounds ($866 million) in the three months to December. Comparable sales were up 12 per cent.

In Asia Pacific, comparable sales rose by at least 10 per cent, driven by increased demand in Greater China and continued improvement in Korea.

During the three months, Burberry opened five mainline stores including two in China, a fourth store in Mexico and the first Burberry Beauty Box in Covent Garden, London. In addition, one store and two concessions previously operated by a franchisee were acquired in Thailand.

“The performance reflects continuing strong brand momentum and our team’s intense focus on retail execution, supported by a planned increase in investment in marketing, customer service offline and online and our retail portfolio,” said CEO Angela Ahrendts.

Despite the uncertainty of the macro environment, Ahrendts is confident the company’s proven strategies will continue to deliver long-term value for shareholders.
