Indonesian FMCG retailer’s sales rise

Indonesian FMCG retailer PT Matahari has reported a healthy total store sales increase of 16.2 per cent in 2013.

The company has added 19 new Hypermarts, three new Foodmarts and 16 new Boston Health & Beauty stores, taking its total store count to 221.

It says it will continue the aggressive expansion in 2014, planning to open more than 20 new Hypermarts, three to five new Foodmarts and over 20 Boston Health & Beauty stores.

According to Boston Consulting Group, Indonesia is at the early stages of a period of strong economic growth, creating a wave of new middle-class and affluent consumers that will grow in both size and purchasing power through to 2020.
