FamilyMart boosts Thai business

Japan’s convenience store operator FamilyMart has forged a new partnership to accelerate its Thai expansion.

FamilyMart has allied with oil retailer Susco to open convenience stores at its petrol stations.

The companies will trial opening at four Susco stations in greater Bangkok, with an agreement to expand to as many as 80 stations over time, should the trial succeed.

Susco, with 248 stations across Thailand, also plans to develop its own convenience chain to be called Susco Mart.

Susco MD Chairit Simaroj says the efforts are part of the company’s goal to cater to middle class consumers.
