Mapletree opens SC VivoCity Vietnam

Singapore’s Mapletree says its new SC VivoCity Vietnam joint venture shopping centre is now 84 per cent leased.

The mall, located in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7, a popular enclave of expatriates, was formally opened over the weekend, although its has been trading since April.

It is a joint venture between local company Saigon Co Op Investment Co, a supermarket operator, and Mapletree, bearing the same brand as its award winning VivoCity centre on Singapore’s waterfront.

The new five-storey centre has a gross floor area of 62,000 sqm and houses 150 retail tenants. Among its higher profile stores are Vietnam’s first Hamleys toy store, Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge. It is home to the nation’s first Imax cinema screen.

Mapletree says footfall is now around 700,000 per month.

Development of three office towers and two apartment blocks continues adjacent to the mall site, which is located close to the Ho Chi Minh City RMIT university campus.
