Marina Bay Sands backs Singapore International Film Festival

Marina Bay Sands has returned as the presenting sponsor of the Singapore International Film Festival commencing this week.

From November to December 6, film fans of all ages are invited to come down and catch a glimpse of their favourite stars as they grace the only venue in town to hold all five red carpets associated with this year’s festival.

Marina Bay Sands will also be hosting a series of In Conversation With dialogue sessions during the festival, where guests will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with the cast of Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo’s latest film In The Room, UK film director Matthew Brown’s The Man Who Knew Infinity, and internationally-acclaimed actress and producer Michelle Yeoh.

These exclusive sessions are among the myriad of ways in which Marina Bay Sands lends support to the festival under its Sands for Singapore CSR programme. The aim is to help showcase homegrown talents, increase awareness about film culture and the community, and raise the profile of the industry.

Celebrities expected at this year’s festival include Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, who has most recently captured the hearts of audiences through his performances in movies such as British comedy-drama The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Golden Globe-nominated television series The Newsroom. Action superstar Michelle Yeoh, Golden Horse awards winner Yeo Yann Yann, and Singaporean film director Eric Khoo will also grace this year’s star-studded event. Adding to the star power are local television celebrities Zoe Tay, Tay Ping Hui, Shaun Chen and Julie Tan.

On December 4, the integrated resort will also hold its first-ever red carpet on the Sands SkyPark, as it welcomes the film glitterati at celebrity chef restaurant Spago by Wolfgang Puck. Fresh from their latest film The Man Who Knew Infinity, actor Patel and film director Matthew Brown will be making a special appearance for this inaugural event and the premiere of their movie in Singapore

On December 5, the stars will dazzle the crowd at the by-invite-only SGIFF Silver Screen Awards held at Sands Theatres. First introduced by the festival in 1991, the awards recognise the talents of new and upcoming filmmakers, many of whom have gone on to become prominent filmmakers. Among the prestigious awards presented is the inaugural Cinema Legend Award, which will be given out actress and producer Michelle Yeoh.

Celebrities Yeoh, Dev Patel and celebrity chef Daniel Boulud are expected to walk the red carpet at the Sands Theatre Foyer following the awards ceremony, before attending a Benefit Dinner at db Bistro & Oyster Bar at Marina Bay Sands.

The Opening Film – Panay (Taiwan) – and a series of Special Presentation Films will be screened at Marina Bay Sands and attended by the film’s cast and directors. Tickets to the Opening Film are priced at S$25 each and tickets to the Special Presentation Films are priced at S$15 each.
