Gap Japan aids quake victims

Gap Japan has donated US$50,000 in cash and 60,000 units of clothing to the Japan quake relief appeal.

Gap Japan KK, a subsidiary of Gap Inc, gave the cash from its charity foundation to the International Medical Corps, an organisation providing on-the-ground humanitarian relief in the affected areas. In addition, the company is matching all employee donations to the organisation dollar-for-dollar.

“On behalf of our employees in Japan and around the world, our hearts go out to the people impacted by these earthquakes, especially those who have lost loved ones, homes and belongings,” said Erin Nolan, representative director for Gap Japan KK.

“We are working with the local government and relief partners to deliver clothing to those who need it most.”

Since 1995, when it opened its first Gap store in Japan, Gap Japan KK has expanded to 269 Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy brand stores across the country, including 20 in the earthquake-affected area, in the nation’s south.
