Sephora exits Taiwan, Etude House withdraws from Hong Kong

LVMH-owned beauty retailer Sephora is to withdraw from Taiwan, closing its online store and mobile app after just more than a year of operation.

The brand announced on its website that the last day of business will be on May 10 and orders placed before May 11 will be delivered normally. The reason behind the closure was not disclosed.

Sephora entered Taiwan in October 2021 by opening an online store. The Taiwan closure came after the brand closed its online store in Vietnam, less than a year after entering the market.

Sephora currently has some 3000 points of sales across 36 markets. Last month, Sephora appointed former Bulgari executive Jenny Cheah as its new MD of Southeast Asia, Oceania & South Korea.

Meanwhile, South Korean beauty brand Etude House has also withdrawn from Hong Kong after 10 years of operation in the market. All of its six retail stores have already been closed. The Amorepacific-owned affordable beauty brand shut its physical stores in Singapore last year.
