Health, style boost China eyewear sales

China’s eyewear retail sector is booming – and showing no sign of slowing.

Both health and style are factors boosting eyewear sales in China, with the China Optometric and Optical Association revealing that the country already has more than 60,000 eyewear stores.

French franchised eyewear group Alain Afflelou Group CEO Frederic Poux says the increasing disposable incomes of middle-class Chinese along with a rising awareness of the importance of vision and sight are likely to boost the Chinese eyewear market.

More consumers are choosing high-end lenses, says option Robert Ng of the Shanghai store of a Hong Kong eyewear chain. The most popular price range spans from 3000 to 8000 yuan (US$450 to US$1200).

Market researchers expect eyewear brands and manufacturers in China to take advantage of evolving consumer demand for items that symbolise wealth, health, good looks and taste, reports China Daily.
