Mobile QuickPass rolls out in Hong Kong

Chinese financial services corporation UnionPay has added Hong Kong in its worldwide roll-out of mobile QuickPass.
UnionPay International now co-operates with the Bank of China (Hong Kong) in offering the service, offering cardholders fast, convenient and secure crossborder mobile payment services at UnionPay QuickPass terminals worldwide via Apple Pay.
This follows UnionPay HCE mobile QuickPass products being introduced in Macau and South Korea.
UnionPay mobile QuickPass supports offline payments with smartphone, wearable devices and UnionPay chip cards, as well as online mobile payments. Outside Mainland China, more than 400,000 POS terminals in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and the UAE accept mobile QuickPass.
Meanwhile, UnionPay International has issued mobile QuickPass products in Northeast and Southeast Asia.
Hong Kong has 16 million UnionPay cards that have been issued accumulatively, which means each Hong Kong resident has two of the cards on average. About 20,000 POS terminals in the market support mobile QuickPass, covering merchants like 7-11, Mannings, Sogo and Tsui Wah Restaurant.

Crossborder services
BOC UnionPay dual-currency credit cardholders can also use crossborder services at UnionPay mobile QuickPass terminals worldwide through Apple Pay. In Mainland China in particular, there are more than 10 million mobile QuickPass terminals in such outlets as FamilyMart, KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks and Watsons. The service is also available in the apps of such companies as 360buy.com, China Eastern Airlines, Ctrip and Dianping.com.
Mobile QuickPass has multiple security measures including dynamic security code and payment token. The card number is not displayed at the time of payment, and the transaction information is kept within the network of the issuer and UnionPay.
Latest data shows the transaction volume of mobile QuickPass in markets outside Mainland China grew by about five times last year. Australia is the overseas market with the largest number of POS terminals accepting mobile QuickPass. In Macau, UnionPay is the most commonly used international bankcard brand in contactless payment. Doota Mall, GongCha, GS25 Convenience Store and Watsons in South Korea, and Kamalan Bus, KingStone Bookstore and Taipei Leechi in Taiwan all accept mobile QuickPass.
