Owndays Singapore assault leads to arrest
A 45-year-old woman has been arrested at Tiong Bahru Plaza after an incident at an Owndays Singapore eyewear retail outlet which left staff bruised and shocked.
In a video with more than 135,000 shares on Facebook the woman can be seen verbally abusing and assaulting at least two staff members of the shop. While passersby and a security guard try to pacify her, she continues to swear at the shop staff.
The video has been shared on Inside Retail Asia’s Facebook page.
Police say they were alerted to the incident and investigations are ongoing.
A Facebook post by Owndays says the incident occurred after a female shopper went into the outlet to hide from the woman seen in the video, who had become “aggressive”.
“Two of our team members attempted to assist the shopper and were assaulted by the aggressive lady. Our colleagues had been brave and maintained their professionalism despite repeated assaults by the angry lady,” said the post.
The retailer says legal advice is being sought.
Since the video of the incident was shared online, the store says it has received heartening messages from members of the public voicing concerns for its colleagues.
“Most importantly, we would like to commend our two very courageous colleagues who stood up for others in this unfortunate incident. Thank you and bravo girls!,” says the post.
A nearby florist said it was disturbed by the staff’s predicament it wanted to send flowers to them.
