Seibu Malaysia to make debut in Kuala Lumpur

Seibu Malaysia will launch with a four-storey department store in the heart of Kuala Lumpur in 2019.

This follows the Japanese luxury retail chain already establishing itself in Indonesia and Singapore.

Seibu will set up in Tun Razak Exchange, a 28.3ha development. The company says it will be targeting high-income clientele in the financial hub, reports the Nikkei Asian Review.

To be run by Malaysian retail group Sogo, the new outlet will offer items ranging from food to clothing.

Seibu Department Stores opened its first store in 1949 and is now a subsidiary of Seven & I Holdings. It has 16 stores in Japan, with its flagship in Ikebukuro.
