Uniqlo is to open in Italy

Uniqlo is to open in Italy next year, choosing a heritage building in Milan for a brand-defining flagship store.

Located in Piazza Cordusio, in the heart of the historical city and within walking distance of Piazza del Duomo, the new store will offer LifeWear for men, women, and kids over three levels.

“We are extremely honoured and proud to be launching in Italy in 2019,” said Tadashi Yanai, Uniqlo founder and chairman, president & CEO of parent company Fast Retailing.

“Milan is one of the world’s most important and well respected fashion capitals, enjoying a long standing culture of craftsmanship as well as sophisticated and elegant design. With this incredible store location, and our LifeWear concept based on creating perfect clothing that meets the needs of everyone’s daily lifestyles, we hope that the Milanese public and international visitors will embrace Uniqlo and make it theirs,” he said.

The store will take up about 1500sqm of space, with one floor below ground. It will open in fall.

Uniqlo is steadily expanding its European presence, opening in the Netherlands last September and scheduled to debut in Denmark in Spring next year. Italy will be the Japanese fast-fashion giant’s 10th European market. It also currently has 32 stores in Russia, 26 in France, 11 in the UK, nine in Germany, three in Belgium, two in Spain and one in Sweden.
