China’s Ushopal takes stake in luxury skincare brand Argentum Apothecary

One of the UK’s fastest-growing skincare brands, Argentum Apothecary, has received investment from the Chinese brand management group Ushopal. 

Ushopal itself benefited from a $100 million funding round in March, with investors including FountainVest and Cathay Capital, the money intended to support portfolio expansion in China and the Asia Pacific. The Argentum Apothecary investment came via Upshopal’s luxury retail business Bonnie&Clyde.

Argentum Apothecary, founded in London in 2011 by Joy Isaacs, has built a loyal following in China’s superluxury cosmetics category and both companies believe the added investment will further grow the brand’s footprint globally. 

“We have always had a strong connection with China, and we’ve seen incredible brand growth in the past few years,” said Isaacs. “As one of the leading brand management groups in China, we believe the forge of this partnership will shape the future of Argentum in Asia and the world.” 

Ushopal is known for partnering with and investing in next-generation luxury brands in the beauty and wellness space, including Chantecaille, Natura Bisse, and Juliette Has a Gun.

The company’s Bonnie&Clyde chain typically trades in top-tier Chinese department stores, working with brands sold exclusively at high-end international department stores such as Harrods, Le Bon Marché, and Neiman Marcus.
