Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries is reportedly in preliminary talks to bring Irish fast-fashion retailer Primark into India.

Founded in 1969 and headquartered in Dublin, Primark operates more than 400 stores across the UK, Europe and the US. The brand, known for its affordable clothing and footwear, has eyed the Indian market for years.

Should a deal be reached, Primark would likely enter the market through a joint venture or licensing agreement, according to BNN Breaking. The brand will benefit from direct access to the Indian consumer base while leveraging Reliance’s retail presence and operational synergies.

The majority of stores are expected to be located on high streets, which aligns with the brand’s big-box format, The Economic Times reported, citing two sources aware of the development.

Reliance is currently one of India’s largest retailers with a robust portfolio of international brand partnerships. A collaboration with Primark will help the company intensify its competition against rivals such as Tata’s Zudio, Landmark Group’s Max, and Shoppers Stop’s InTune.
